Little spiders and dust bunnies are amongst my first memories of a quiet time. I come from a large family and a quiet place is very hard to find in our home. I wanted a quiet place, because I wanted to devote all my attention to the Lord, and when people were walking by me and talking, I was easily distracted. Have you every felt distracted while trying to have time with the Lord? Distractions are a common thing and even a daily part of life, but it’s important how we appropriate them! Instead of letting distractions hinder me from having time with the Lord in the mornings, I purposed, with the Lord’s help to find a quiet place to talk with Him. The place where bed skirts sometimes prettily fall, boxes find their homes and even the occasional dirty sock lands, I found my quiet place…under my bed. This is where I started my relationship with the Lord and learned precious things from His Word as a young girl. It’s not in where you have your quiet time that makes any difference, it’s IF you have a quiet time that makes the difference! I remember the day when I was reading my Bible in my palace of dust, when my little sister who was a toddler at the time, came crawling in my room. I remember coming eye level, face to face in fact, with a chubby sweet faced little intruder! I can still remember her giggling at her find and having a sinking feeling that the keys to my castle were found. After my little “intruder” knew where to find me, it was easy for me to want to give up my little place, but the Lord honored my desire to be with Him, and I had many more special times under my bed.
Your quiet place might not be under your bed like it was for me, but is it your closet, bedroom, favorite tree or comfy chair? Whatever your place, keep it and make the time there well spent. “And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13” Jesus wants to show you through His Word all the treasures of heaven and special plans he has for you. It is in these quiet moments that you can hear the Lord in a sweet way and learn His character. You won’t just one day, grow up to be a godly woman, but it’s in these quiet moments as a girl with Jesus that begin the forming process of that special woman. God’s word is His love Book to us. He reveals himself to us through the inspired chapters and books in the Bible you and I have before us. Jesus desires to do much more in our lives than even we want for ourselves. Be diligent to find him and may you be blessed with what He shows you! “…Know thou the God of thy father, and serve Him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek Him, He will be found of thee. I Chronicles 28:9b”
